A Message From Chris…

I’m way behind, but catching up quickly. Last year was a blur after Walt’s strokes & many doctor & therapy appointments. We are getting our feet back on the ground & ready to make 2017 a great year. Walt’s doing well. Back to work full time & adapting to changes in sight & memory. We are ready for a major vacation. Does anyone know anything about train travel? Looking for suggestions & experiences with Amtrak. The horses are weathering winter well. Everyone is happy, healthy, & well fed. The ice hasn’t been a problem in the paddocks this year. That’s been a great benefit for all. I think they are starting to shed. Quite a few hairs on my glove after petting Torka yesterday. The horses & I are looking forward to seeing all of you as soon as the weather heads into spring. Next newsletter, I’ll aim for the end of April, I’ll add pictures of all the horses here. There are a couple you may not know yet, & our main crew. If anyone has a good picture of one of the horses, please share by texting or emailing it to me. You will find a page listing the class schedules for this year. Now is the time to contact me to reserve your class. Remember – first come, first served. This year you must pay as soon as you sign up. Last year we held several spots & the rider never came. That made our finances tight & we had to turn away riders who wanted to ride. We have not raised our rates for many years, so please send your $90.00 per session as soon as you sign up. If you have to cancel we can refund your payment, if we know early enough, to let someone else use that spot. Checks should be made out to Red River Riders & mailed to N6669 Cherry Road, Shawano, WI 54166. Call or text me (Chris) at 715-853-6449, or email me at cmbaldwin@frontiernet.net. Volunteers, we hope you can join us again this year. We miss all of you. Please check out your schedule & call to sign up for your shift. Bring a friend or family member. Anyone interested in learning how to become an assistant instructor, or full instructor? We will send any serious prospective instructors to seminars for training after completing a year here as an assistant instructor. We will pay for seminars and certification. Call if you would like more info. Wishing you a great 2017!

 IMPORTANT NEWS FOR 2017:

We are very sad to announce that Dawn Novitski will not be instructing this year. Dawn has been part of RRR since she was 13 years old. Dawn completed certification as a therapeutic riding instructor after she graduated from high school & has been working hard at RRR ever since. This year Dawn & her family will be taking time out to focus on 4-H & rodeo drill teams. Besides enjoying trail riding as a family as often as possible, Dawn is a thrilling rider for Rodeo City Riders drill team. The team exhibits during local fairs, rodeos, & events, and they travel to a few other states to do demonstrations. This year Piper will be following in her Mom’s footprints (stirrups?) in the Shawano County 4-H drill team. The Novitski’s are a family that works together to make all this work along with several other interests they all share. We wish Dawn, John, Walker, & Piper a great year, but we are anxious to see Dawn return to instructing as soon as she can.

We’ll send out an email & text as soon as Toni feels comfortable scheduling volunteer time. Toni will be the person you call this year to sign up and discuss any questions, suggestions, and schedule conflicts. You can still call me if you have to cancel last minute, or you can’t get in touch with Toni right away. I’d also like to let everyone know that we are always interested in inviting any adult who would like to consider becoming an assistant instructor, and possibly continuing on to be certified as a therapeutic riding instructor to call me for more information.
